OUR MISSION

"The purpose of the Society shall be to promote and advance the art and science of oral and maxillofacial surgery and the betterment of public health primarily through educational programs relating to oral and maxillofacial surgery."

Who We Are

The Chicago Society of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons is a non-profit professional organization incorporated in the State of Illinois. Active CSOMS members are graduates of accredited dental schools who have also completed an accredited training program in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, are licensed to practice dentistry or medicine, and limit their practice exclusively to Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery.

Active members must maintain membership in the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and their State Society of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons.

Emily Smythe

DDS

President

Dr. Emily Smythe received her Doctor of Dental Surgery from the University of Maryland. She then went on to complete an internship and Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery residency at the Medical College of Wisconsin, which is affiliated with Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin and the Milwaukee VA Hospital. Dr. Smythe is Board-Certified through the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. She is certified in Advanced Cardiac Life Support, Pediatric Advanced Life Support and is a Basic Life Support Instructor.

Joseph Baptist

DDS

Vice President

Dr. Baptist earned his Doctor of Dental Surgery Degree at University of Illinois Chicago, College of Dentistry. He completed his residency training at Loyola University Medical Center where he continues on as an Associate Professor of Surgery as a part-time attending covering call with the residents. He is also a diplomate of the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons.

Mariusz Wrzosek

DMD, MD

Secretary

Dr. Wrzosek is board-certified and a diplomate of the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. He completed his undergraduate engineering studies at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. He earned his dental degree from the Harvard School of Dental Medicine. He then served on active duty in the Navy and returned to residency. He earned his medical degree at Harvard Medical School and completed his residency in oral and maxillofacial surgery at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston. He is now an Assistant Professor of Surgery in the Department of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery at Loyola University Medical Center, still serves in the Navy Reserve in the Great Lakes region and is also Adjunct Faculty at Midwestern University College of Dentistry.

Jordan Ledger

Dr. Jordan Ledger completed his undergraduate and dental education at the University of Iowa. He subsequently completed his post-graduate residency training in oral and maxillofacial surgery at Loyola University Medical Center and the Hines Veterans Administration Hospital. Dr. Ledger practices full scope oral and maxillofacial surgery with primary interests in dental implant surgery, bone grafting, and corrective jaw surgery (orthognathic surgery). Dr. Ledger is board certified by the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. He holds staff appointments at several area hospitals including Loyola University Medical Center where he is a clinical assistant professor of surgery.

Mohammed Qaisi

DMD, MD, FACS

Dr. Mohammed Qaisi is a Clinical Professor of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery at Midwestern University and the residency program director of the Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery training program at Cook County Health (Chicago, IL). He received his Medical Degree from Louisiana State University School of Medicine- Shreveport, and his dental degree from Boston University Goldman School of Dental Medicine. Dr. Qaisi completed his residency training at Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center, and a two year fellowship in Head & Neck Oncology and Microvascular Reconstructive Surgery at the University of Maryland Medical Center. Dr. Qaisi is a Diplomate of the American Board of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery and a fellow of the American College of Surgeons.

Don C. Kalant

DDS

Dr. Don C. Kalant, Sr., received his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from Loyola University. He served his residency in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at Loyola University Medical Center and Hines V.A. Medical Center. Dr. Kalant also holds an Active Membership in the International Society of Oral Implantologists, and the Academy of Osseointegration. He is certified by the American College of Surgeons in Advanced Trauma Life Support, by the American Heart Association in Advanced Cardiac Life Support and is an Instructor in Basic Life Support.

Stephen MacLeod

Past-Past-President

Dr. Stephen MacLeod is a Professor of Surgery at Loyola University and Director of the Division of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery and Dental Medicine at Loyola University Medical Center. He attended Dental school at the University of Dundee and Medical School at the University Aberdeen. His surgical training was in Scotland and the University of Louisville. He is a fellow in the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, the American College of Surgeons and the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh, and is a diplomate of the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery.

Maureen E. Radecki

 

Executive Director

As President of My Own Admin, Inc., Maureen Radecki has 30 years of dental organization management experience. Prior to starting her business, she was the managing editor of several national decorating magazines/catalogs. She graduated from the University of Notre Dame with a degree in American Studies.

MEETINGS

Our Meetings

Fulfill your continuing education requirements and enjoy fellowship with your local counterparts at the CSOMS dinner meetings. CSOMS provides two meetings a year – Winter and Spring. Social hour, dinner and a quality presentation are always on the agenda. Watch your emails and the CSOMS web site for topics, dates and times.

CSOMS is an Approved PACE Program Provider through the Academy of General Dentistry. The formal continuing education programs of this program provider are accepted by AGD for Fellowship, Mastership and membership maintenance credit.

CSOMS is also approved as a continuing education provider by the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulations.

CSOMS 2020 Winter Meeting

The CSOMS Education Committee has invited each of the three local Chicago Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Departments to submit two cases to encountered by residents in their programs. These six cases will be presented and opened for discussion and questions to all in attendance. A variety of topics will be addressed in 10-minute segments, each followed by 5 minutes of discussion.
